Civics is the heartbeat of a strong democracy. It guides our understanding of government and our rights and responsibilities as citizens. Strong civics education helps students grow into thoughtful, critical thinkers who actively engage and make a difference in their communities.
America250 Nevada is proud to partner with the Nevada Department of Education and the Center for Civic Excellence to recognize the teachers and students who excel in civics education.
Civic Leader Educator Award
$1,776 classroom or professional development grant
Civic Leader Student Award
$2,500 scholarship toward post-secondary education
These awards celebrate the educators who ignite curiosity, guide thoughtful dialogue, and model civic responsibility, as well as the students who step up, engage with their communities, and demonstrate active leadership.
An important goal of America250 Nevada is to support schools, students, and educators who exemplify a commitment to civic engagement and leadership through the Nevada School of Civic Excellence program, the Student Civic Leader Award, and the Civic Educator Award. This America250 Nevada initiative strives to fund qualified schools who are otherwise struggling to support civic programs.
Our goals are to:
Bring more awareness of new Nevada Seal of Civics program to students, parents and educators.
Award schools and educators who excel in civic and leadership learning opportunities for students.
Award the Nevada Seal of Civics to seniors with scholarship funds to continue their education.

Nevada Seal of Civics for High School Seniors
The Nevada Seal of Civics on a high school diploma is a recognition for Nevada students who go above and beyond in civic learning and engagement. It is separate from the America250 Nevada Civic Excellence Awards, but the programs are closely connected in their goal of promoting strong civic knowledge and participation.

Nevada Civic Excellence Designation for Schools
The Nevada School of Civic Excellence designation recognizes Nevada schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to civics education. Being a designated school means students have access to robust civic learning experiences that equip them to participate thoughtfully in their communities and in democracy.
