Like Friends, Like Foes: Japanese Americans in Nevada during World War II

  • Clark County Library 1401 East Flamingo Road Las Vegas, NV, 89119 United States (map)

During World War II, over 120,000 Japanese American residents were forced from their Pacific Coast homes to desolate inland concentration camps across America, enduring many indignities and hardships because of their heritage. Although Nevada was not an internment site, many Japanese Nevadans had also suffered humiliations, racial prejudice and loss of freedoms. Historian Andy Russell reveals Japanese American life in Nevada during wartime and discuss the economic contributions to Nevada by early Japanese settlers in his new book "Like Friends, Like Foes." Includes a book signing and viewing of photos depicting Nevada's early Japanese American communities.
